Offline Restaurant POS for Unreliable Internet

A restaurant cannot pause dinner service because broadband is down. Offline-first design saves critical counter work locally before depending on a remote server.

What remains local-first

  • Creating and editing supported orders and carts.
  • Dine-in table actions and core restaurant workflow state.
  • Firing supported KOT actions and recording cash transactions.
  • Queuing eligible updates for cloud sync when connectivity returns.

What still needs connectivity

Cloud synchronisation, remote devices, online payment confirmation, messaging services, software updates, and other third-party integrations need a network at some stage. Offline-first does not mean every online service functions without the internet.

How to test offline claims

During a demo, disconnect the network before opening an order. Complete table changes, KOT, billing, and recovery. Reconnect and inspect sync status. Also ask what happens if two devices edit the same order before syncing.
